Simply put, Brian Wetzel is “da man”. Also known by his peers as The Mortgage Doctor, due to his affection for wearing doctor scrubs to the office and for his ability to help cure mortgage problems. All joking aside, as the proud father of three beautiful daughters, Brian is a blessed man in every way and grateful for this beautiful life.
Brian grew up in a humble, working class family and was proudly the first member of his family to attend college. Graduating from the University of Hartford with his Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Brian also earned the university’s annual prestigious ‘Recognition for Outstanding Achievement in the Study of Accounting’ (Award).
Upon graduating from the university, Brian accepted an offer to join a “Big 6” accounting firm, Ernst & Young, in their New York office. Brian advanced to Senior Accountant during his tenure at E&Y and learned valuable experience working successfully in the culture of a large, international firm.
Although enjoying the large-firm culture and advancing through the ranks, the idea of having better quality of life and more time with family and personal passions, Brian ultimately resigned from E&Y and relocated to Las Vegas. Having family in Las Vegas allowed for a smooth transition and Brian immediately began working with a local CPA firm. It was here in Las Vegas in the small-firm culture that Brian began to develop real business expertise and specialize in mortgage banking.
The mortgage company engagements in which Brian managed ranged from annual audit and financial statement services, FHA-HUD-VA compliance engagements, quality control related services, secondary market modeling and execution strategies, operational and warehousing matters, marketing and technology initiatives, tax planning, and general business consulting matters.
It was during these years in the late 90’s that Brian met the team at RMS and, specifically, Wayne “The Big Kahuna” Wasano. After working with RMS for many years in the capacity of an outside accountant and business advisor, Wayne graciously made an offer in 2001 for Brian to join RMS as its Chief Financial Officer. Although public accounting proved to be a rewarding career, the opportunity to work with the most talented mortgage professionals, and specifically join Wayne to help lead and grow RMS into its current form, has brought a passion to Brian for which was unparalleled in the public accounting profession.
As partners, Brian and Wayne compliment one another with their respective business backgrounds. Wayne brings a wealth of banking and sales expertise and sets the overall tone for leadership and professionalism at RMS. Brian’s finance and business experience, steeped in mortgage lending, along with his ability to bring out the best in others, enhances the company’s ability to perform at the highest level.
